Israel’s new defense minister is adamant about the war with Hezbollah. He only sees an end to the fighting when all of Israel’s demands are met.
According to new Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, there should be no ceasefire in the war with the Lebanese Hezbollah militia. After consultations with the Israeli General Staff, Katz wrote on Platform X: “There will be no ceasefire and no pause in Lebanon.” Katz contradicted media reports that had raised hopes of an imminent ceasefire after more than a year of war.
Katz spoke of “great and powerful operations” by the Israeli army against Hezbollah and also mentioned the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah. These provided an “image of victory” for Israel. “The attack activities must continue,” the defense minister wrote. “We will continue the strikes against Hezbollah with all our might until the war objectives are achieved.”
Israel will only agree to an agreement if it grants Israel the right to continue to act against terror in Lebanon, provides for the disarmament of Hezbollah and its withdrawal to the area north of the Litani River.
