Investigators arrest a teenager in Elmshorn because of specific attack plans. What was his goal?
After the arrest of a terror suspect in Elmshorn, Schleswig-Holstein’s Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack made it clear that, according to the current state of the investigation, a Christmas market was not the target. “We have no information that this is an attack on a Christmas market,” said the CDU politician in Kiel. “I want to make that very clear.”
In this specific case, the investigating authorities received a tip, but also observed the 17-year-old themselves, said Sütterlin-Waack. “We are occasionally dependent on foreign services.” She added: “We would be pleased if our investigative authorities were given further powers, including in connection with investigations into such crimes.”
Investigations continue
Sütterlin-Waack was concerned about the case. “I can really say clearly that there is concern,” emphasized the Interior Minister. “It’s possible there’s a second person behind it because there’s also an investigation into conspiracy to commit murder.”
On November 6th, emergency services arrested the 17-year-old at his home in Elmshorn. Since then, the teenager has been in custody on suspicion of conspiring to commit a crime. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he is being investigated for preparing a serious act of violence that endangers the state.
