War in Ukraine
Because of moderation – why Putin continues to escalate

There is now talk of ending the war. You don’t see any of this in Ukraine. On the contrary: Vladimir Putin is trying to use power to improve his position.
Since the election of Donald Trump, there has been open talk about an early end to the war in Ukraine. Alleged peace plans are being launched from the Republican’s orbit. But that does not mean that the war is losing intensity. The opposite is the case. The Russians are at the end of their second summer offensive and are not letting up in their efforts.
An end to the war, or at least an end to open hostilities, would likely result in the conflict being frozen along the current front line. It would therefore make sense to occupy as much territory as possible before day X. Russia formally annexed four Ukrainian oblasts, but was by no means able to occupy them. Free Ukraine controls significant territory, particularly in Donbass, Russia’s primary war target.
South of Kursk, the Ukrainians still hold Russian territory near the city of Sudja. The Russians want to take back this zone with force. Their third counteroffensive is now underway in this area. However, Kyiv is trying to hold onto the corner at all costs. In future negotiations, this zone could be used as a bargaining chip, as the Kremlin will not leave its own territory under Kiev’s rule.
Vladimir Putin wants to recapture Kursk
Due to the fierce resistance, the Russians are only making slow progress. They were repeatedly thrown back by energetic counterattacks. The Russians are losing war material and people here on a large scale. But they have brought the settlement of Novoivanovka under control and are increasingly constricting the northwestern part of the Ukrainian front. Your goal will be to reach a small river (Malaya Loknya) from the west. At the same time, they attack the Ukrainians to the north and east of the Bulge. In doing so, they continually gain territory. If Ukraine wants to hold the zone, counterattacks will have to be launched again to push the Russians back.
In the east the cities are falling
While the Ukrainians are defending themselves tenaciously and relatively successfully near Kursk, the front in the east is crumbling more and more. Here another city, Kurachowe, is in danger of being lost. The Russians have already entered the city in the east and are trying to flank it on both sides. The Ukrainians blew up the dam of the water reservoir there to make the Russian advance more difficult. The Russians attack the bridges over which Ukrainian supplies flow. It can be expected that the Ukrainians will only engage in rearguard action and delay the Russian advance in order to free their troops from the pocket south of the city and build a new defensive line near Kostyantynopil. The Russians will probably try to cut off the remaining route of retreat via the villages of Hihant and Kostiantynopolske.
The front will not move hundreds of kilometers until Donald Trump takes office. But the Russians will try to further improve their position on the ground. So to completely clear up the price not posted. And to advance further in the section south of Donetsk. If the Ukrainians fail to stop the Russian advance, not only will Kurakhove be lost, the Russians could bypass and cut off the nearest town, Velyka Novosilka. The next few days will show how serious the Russians are. There are signs that the Russians will intensify these attacks to collapse the power grid in the winter. The Russians already see themselves on the way to victory. Putin is trying to create facts before Donald Trump takes office.
