The EU has been warning China for months against supplying military equipment for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Now there is worrying intelligence information.
The EU is examining evidence that drones are being produced in China for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. “We have received reports from intelligence sources about the existence of a factory in China that produces drones that are supplied to Russia and used in the war against Ukraine,” an EU official said in Brussels. Work is currently underway to find out whether there is direct cooperation between China and Russia in the area of military equipment. If this is confirmed, there will be consequences.
According to the official, the intelligence findings are not yet sufficiently solid to be able to act on them. However, this could change, he emphasized.
The EU has already imposed sanctions on Iran for supplying drones and ballistic missiles to Russia. Among those affected is the Iranian state airline Iran Air. A further package of punitive measures against Iran is to be decided on Monday at a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels.
