Mölling on Trump plan: “A Ukraine solution has massive implications for China”

Donald Trump wants a solution in Ukraine to focus on the conflict with China. The war in Ukraine is part of this, explains security expert Christian Mölling.
According to security expert Christian Mölling, the Ukraine plan of US President-elect Donald Trump and his Vice President JD Vance faces major imponderables. Both Russia and Ukraine could resist the ideas of the new US administration. According to this, among other things, after a ceasefire, a buffer zone manned by troops from European NATO states will be created in Ukraine. Mölling said in star– “The Situation – International”, Russia always wanted to prevent “a direct line of contact with NATO troops”. It is also not certain that Ukraine will submit to a “dictation from Trump” “if Trump does not take responsibility for the solution he offers.”
“This is an extremely difficult equation for Putin, for Trump, for Ukraine, but also for us,” emphasized the Bertelsmann Foundation expert. It remains to be seen whether Trump’s team will understand this. Mölling believes that the idea that Ukraine is a European trouble spot that can be viewed separately from the confrontation between the USA and China is wrong. Not least the deployment of North Korean troops alongside Russia makes it clear that the two are connected. “A solution in Ukraine has massive implications for China,” said Mölling.

Susie Wiles – White House Chief of Staff
She is the first woman to hold this position: Susie Wiles, the head of his election campaign, will be future Chief of Staff in the White House. Bundeswehr deployment in Ukraine? “We should imagine it.”
In view of the security policy situation, Germany is “facing major challenges where politics has to demand a lot from all of us so that we can continue to live as we have been able to in the past 20 or 30 years,” said Mölling. From today’s perspective, it seems inconceivable that the Bundeswehr could send soldiers to Ukraine as part of a negotiated solution initiated by the Trump administration. But: “We should imagine it,” says Mölling. “It could be that there are such dramatic developments that we have to make such decisions in Germany.”
Donald Trump vs. Vladimir Putin: Russia threatens to become even more dependent on China
For Russian President Vladimir Putin, the war is not going badly at the moment, also because deploying North Korean troops is significantly cheaper for Russia than deploying its own troops. At the same time, Putin cannot be sure what will happen given the policies of the new US government. If Putin enters into negotiations with the USA under Trump, he will have to be careful that he does not become even more dependent on China than he already is. “Putin cannot be sure whether he will achieve his own goals,” said Mölling.
