One man has stashed five submachine guns, 30 rifles and plenty of ammunition. Now the Attorney General’s Office is investigating where he got the weapons and what he planned to do with them.
The police seized a large arsenal of weapons including ammunition from a 62-year-old in Erlangen. “An extremist background cannot currently be ruled out,” said the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office. The “Nürnberger Nachrichten” and “Spiegel” had previously reported.
The man is in custody. The Bavarian Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism took over the investigation.
Weapons working and loaded
The police actually searched the man’s apartment on suspicion of violating the Medicines Act. In the apartment and in the basement they found five submachine guns, five assault rifles, 25 long guns, several handguns and large stocks of suitable ammunition and magazines. The weapons of war were functional and some were even loaded, as the public prosecutor’s office announced. She is now investigating the origin and intended use of the weapons. There are no indications of an imminent danger to the population.
According to the news magazine “Spiegel”, the man had already come to the attention of the police for incitement to hatred and using the symbols of unconstitutional organizations.
