According to authorities, eleven people were killed in the rocket attack, including two children. Meanwhile, US President Biden has promised Ukraine the use of more US missiles.
Initially there was talk of at least ten victims. The main aim was to supply energy; the power was out in the entire city, the regional military administration announced on Monday night. In the attack on Sunday evening, a nine-story residential building was hit. In addition to the eleven fatalities, 89 people were injured, including eleven children, rescue workers said via the short message service Telegram.
The rescue workers said more than 400 people had been evacuated. The head of Sumy’s military administration, Volodymyr Artyukh, described the evening as “hell” for the city. According to local authorities, 90 homes, two educational institutions and 13 other buildings were damaged in the attack. Reuters was able to partially confirm this information using satellite images. The attack followed a massive Russian attack on Sunday morning that targeted energy facilities across the country with missiles and drones. There was initially no statement from Moscow. Both sides deny targeted attacks on civilians.
