There is international speculation about possibilities for an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war that has been ongoing since 2022. The Kremlin is now once again ruling out one scenario.
The Kremlin has rejected speculation about a possible freeze in the Russo-Ukrainian war. “The President (Vladimir Putin) has already said that freezing this conflict is not an option for us,” spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a press briefing in response to media reports on various scenarios for an end to the war along the current front line. Moscow wants to continue to achieve its war goals. President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly expressed his willingness to talk.
The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj categorically ruled out ceding territory to Russia when considering ways to end the war. However, it left room for a temporary loss of control over parts of Ukrainian territory until after Putin’s reign.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and, including the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which was annexed in 2014, occupies a good fifth of Ukrainian territory.
