Alleged sabotage: German arrested in Russia

A German is said to have entered Russia via Poland with 50 grams of liquid explosives. The Russian authorities also see a Ukrainian trace in the case.

The Russian domestic secret service FSB says it has arrested a German citizen in Kaliningrad for allegedly planning acts of sabotage. Russian news agencies reported that it was a man from Hamburg who was born in 1967. A family member confirmed this star and RTL that the arrest took place.

When he entered the Russian Baltic Sea exclave from Poland, 50 grams of liquid explosives were seized in his car. The man returned to Russia to organize “acts of sabotage” on the local energy infrastructure. According to local media reports, the explosive was hidden in a shampoo bottle.

Russia: Arrested German is said to have previously carried out an attack

The Ria Novosti news agency reported that the man received the order for an attack from a Ukrainian who also lived in Hamburg. The arrested man is also suspected of having carried out an explosive attack on a gas distribution station in the Kaliningrad region in March of this year. There was initially no independent confirmation of this information.

Since the Russian offensive in Ukraine began in February 2022, cases of “sabotage,” “treason,” and “terrorism” have been increasing in Russia. In recent years, several people from Western countries, particularly the United States, have been arrested in Russia and faced serious charges. Washington denounced hostage-taking to secure the release of Russians imprisoned abroad.
