Texas supports Donald Trump’s migration policy. Now the state has offered land to the president-elect. A deportation center could be built there.
During the US election campaign, Donald Trump announced “the largest mass deportation of criminal immigrants in the history” of the United States. The president-elect wants to deport migrants who have entered the country illegally on a large scale.
This should start right at the beginning of his presidency, his spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt recently confirmed again: “On day one, President Trump will pull out all the stops to secure the border, protect their communities and halt the largest mass deportation of criminal immigrants in the country to start the story.” Now Trump could get support from Texas for his plans.
State plans deportation facilities
The US state is one of the biggest supporters of a tough migration policy in the USA – and has therefore now made an offer to Trump. The government wants to make a piece of land along the American-Mexico border available to the mass deportations. Just last month, Texas acquired the property in Starr County in the Rio Grande Valley.
“We just want to let them know that we are a good partner. We are here. We want to help them,” said Land Commissioner and Republican Dawn Buckingham to the AP news agency. The country is being offered to Trump and his team to build a “facility for processing, detaining and coordinating” deportations.
Trump’s reaction is still pending
Buckingham cites the advantages of the location – apparently to arouse the government’s interest: “The land there is very flat. It is close to major airports.” According to them, the border area is around 567 hectares in size. “We can easily build a detention center there,” Buckingham told Fox News.
It is still unclear whether the Trump administration will accept the offer. A letter signed by Dawn Buckingham was posted online and sent to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
