Ukraine will again receive money from Germany to repair its infrastructure. As the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced, a further 65 million euros will flow.
Germany has again provided funds to repair Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The total of 65 million euros will flow into the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, as reported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK). This has been funded by many international donors since 2022.
“Support for Ukraine is more important than ever”
Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) emphasized that Ukraine’s civil energy infrastructure continues to be the target of massive Russian air strikes.
“A collapse of the energy supply in the third winter of the war would have catastrophic consequences for the Ukrainian economy and population,” said Habeck. Support for Ukraine is therefore more important than ever.
Germany remains the fund’s largest donor
The German funds are intended not only to finance repairs to destroyed infrastructure, but also to promote green energy transition projects. According to the ministry, these are intended to strengthen the long-term resilience of the Ukrainian energy system.
With the latest payment, Germany’s total participation in the fund will increase to 360 million euros by the end of 2024. Germany remains the largest donor to the fund, which has collected around 629 million euros since February 2022.
