The maintenance to which children of separation are entitled nationwide is based on the Düsseldorf table. In the coming year, the demand rates will almost stagnate. An exception are those for students.
The maintenance for children of separation will hardly increase in the coming year. This emerges from the new Düsseldorf table 2025, which was published by the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court. Fathers or mothers who live separately don’t have to pay much more for their children than before – except for students.
The minimum maintenance for underage children from the new year up to their 6th birthday is 482 instead of the previous 480 euros, for the period from the 6th to the 12th birthday it is 554 instead of the previous 551 euros and for the period from the 12th to the 18th birthday it is 649 instead so far 645 euros per month. For adult children you have to pay at least 693 euros (instead of the previous 689 euros).
Significantly more for students
There is a significant jump in the needs of students who do not live with their parents or one parent. It increases from 930 to 990 euros, but remained unchanged last year when the requirements for younger children increased significantly.
The minimum rates increase with each income group of the dependent. The income groups themselves will remain unchanged in 2025. There are still 15 income groups. The first income group still ends at 2,100 euros, the 15th income group at 11,200 euros.
Deductible unchanged
The deductible, which is left to the person liable for maintenance as a necessary personal requirement, also remains unchanged from the previous year and amounts to 1,200 euros for non-working fathers and mothers and 1,450 euros for employed people. The child benefit is offset against the child’s needs – usually half of it for underage children and full of it for adult children.
The Düsseldorf table is the guideline of all higher regional courts in Germany for determining and assessing child support. It has been published by the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court since 1979 and is considered a recognized tool for determining appropriate maintenance.
The maintenance commission of the German Family Court is involved in its preparation. The family courts nationwide base their determination of maintenance on the Düsseldorf table.
