The new Bundestag elections in February are changing political timelines. Several deployments of German soldiers abroad are to be extended early.
With a view to the new Bundestag elections in February, the Federal Cabinet has decided to prematurely extend four Bundeswehr missions abroad. With the operations, the federal government, together with allies and partners, is contributing to security in Europe and the world, said government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit in Berlin. The Bundestag now decides on the mandates.
German participation in the European Union-led Operation Eunavfor Aspides and in the UN mission UNMISS in South Sudan is to be extended until October 31, 2025 without any substantive changes. The deployment of German soldiers for the NATO-led maritime security operation Sea Guardian and the EU-led Operation Eunavfor Med Irini in the central Mediterranean is to be extended until November 30, 2025 without any substantive changes.
