Stability Council: Budgets in Bremen and Saarland conspicuous

The Stability Council actually monitors whether Germany complies with EU debt rules. But after the traffic lights go out, there is initially no household. The committee is now concerned about one federal state.
According to experts, the state of Bremen is heading towards an emergency situation with its budget. This is the conclusion reached by the Stability Council, which monitors the budget management of the federal and state governments. Finance Minister Jörg Kukies (SPD) said that a restructuring program had been agreed with the state to improve the budget situation.
The Saarland budget was also classified as conspicuous by the Stability Council. The committee explained that this is probably due to a special effect from 2023 that will not have any impact on the budget.
The Stability Council actually also monitors whether Germany complies with European debt rules. However, the traffic light government had not submitted any plans to Brussels before its exit because the federal budget for 2025 and the supplementary budget for this year were not agreed. There will probably be no more budget resolution before the new election on February 23rd. It therefore only makes sense to evaluate German budget policy next year, said Kukies.
