Under outgoing President Joe Biden, the United States is Ukraine’s largest arms supplier. In the remaining weeks of his term in office, a lot of help will flow to Kyiv.
The US government of outgoing President Joe Biden is providing Ukraine with another huge package of military equipment to defend against Russia’s war of aggression. The US Department of Defense announced that the new package is worth around 988 million US dollars (around 935 million euros). It contains, among other things, ammunition for the Himars rocket launcher system and drones.
In a few weeks, there will be a change of power in Washington: On January 20th, the Republican Donald Trump will take over from Biden. The course with regard to Ukraine is likely to change significantly. There is great fear in Ukraine that Trump, after being sworn in, could drastically reduce US military aid to the country attacked by Russia, thus causing a defeat for Kiev. The Biden administration has therefore set itself the goal of quickly releasing all the funds already approved by Congress for Kiev in the remaining weeks.
Under Biden, the USA is Ukraine’s largest arms supplier. Outgoing Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a speech in the state of California that the incumbent administration had made the decision to defy Russian President Vladimir Putin and not let him pursue his campaign. “The next government must make its own decision,” he warned.
