“Childish”: Alice Weidel calls Foreign Minister “Annalenchen Baerbock”
The election campaign has begun – and it is not always conducted with style. According to critics, AfD leader Alice Weidel has now changed her tone towards Annalena Baerbock.
AfD leader and top candidate Alice Weidel is criticized on social networks for a condescending statement towards Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. In the ZDF program “Berlin Direkt” on Sunday evening, Weidel accused the Green Party politician of having “no idea at all about foreign policy” and of not even being taken on as an intern at the Foreign Office. The AfD leader called the Foreign Minister “Annalenchen Baerbock”.

According to the regional association of the Pirate Party, for example, the term shows “not only disrespect, but also the inability to hold political office.” “When Alice says ‘Annalenchen’, it says a lot about Alice and nothing about Annalena Baerbock,” writes another user on X, formerly Twitter. Another user: “That’s not conservative. Conservative are manners and decency. Tough on the matter but keeping the tone. This was just bullshit.” Other reactions include “poor,” “not worthy of a candidate for chancellor” or “childish.”

Weidel is celebrated among AfD supporters for her interview – after all, with the “Annalenchen” statement she tapped into the deep-seated antipathy towards the Greens. Their representatives are repeatedly made contemptuous of by the AfD. And the top candidate also used the television appearance to spread her party’s stories, speaking, among other things, of “unspeakable agitation” by the “German mainstream media” against Donald Trump or of a possible “war chancellor” Friedrich Merz.
It was only at the weekend that the AfD nominated Weidel as the top candidate for the federal election, describing her as a “candidate for chancellor”. However, given the poll numbers and the lack of coalition options, Weidel’s chancellorship is considered impossible.
