CEC received applications for online voting from six regions

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has received six applications from regions to use remote electronic voting (DEV) in elections on the single voting day in 2022. This was announced on Wednesday, January 26, by the deputy chairman of the commission, Nikolay Bulaev.

“The subjects in which elections are held this year to legislative assemblies or [дополнительные] elections of deputies of the State Duma, have the opportunity to apply for participation in the application of the DEG. To date, we have such applications from six constituent entities of the Russian Federation,” Bulaev said during the plenary session of the State Duma.

According to him, the application deadline is until the end of January.

On December 15, the head of the CEC of the Russian Federation, Ella Pamfilova, announced that the commission plans to expand the use of remote electronic voting in the regions. She noted that in 2022 elections will be held in 19 Russian regions.

In 2021, elections to the State Duma were held for the first time in a new, three-day format. September 19 was the main voting day, and September 17 and 18 were additional. In seven regions of the country, it was possible to vote both online and in person at a polling station. The possibility of electronic voting was provided to residents of Moscow, Murmansk, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov and Yaroslavl regions, as well as Sevastopol.

The final turnout was 51.72%. 56,484,685 voters took part in the elections.

The United Russia party won with 49.82% of the vote. Thus, United Russia received a total of 324 deputy mandates. Communist Party of the Russian Federation – 57 mandates, “A Just Russia – For Truth” – 27 mandates, LDPR – 21, “New People” – 13.
