In an SPD stronghold, Boris Pistorius wants to be elected to the Bundestag for the first time. He is relieved about leaving the traffic lights.
Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is applying for a direct mandate for the SPD in Hanover in the federal election. In the Hannover-Stadt II constituency, Pistorius was nominated by the SPD members with 107 out of 110 votes.
Boris Pistorius supports Olaf Scholz
In an introductory speech that lasted almost half an hour, Pistorius said that he had reacted with relief to the traffic lights being turned off “because this strangling had come to an end.” Without the FDP, the SPD and the Greens would have been able to advance the country better.
Pistorius also once again supported Chancellor Olaf Scholz. What is needed is “an SPD that provides the chancellor – Chancellor Olaf Scholz, even after February 23rd,” he said. Alluding to the discussions about whether he was the better SPD candidate for chancellor, Pistorius referred with a wink to a carpentry shop called Scholz & Pistorius in the Hanover region, which, according to its own description, stands for “high-quality, tailor-made solutions for private and commercial customers.” “A lot can certainly be deduced from this.”
The SPD has won in the constituency since 1949
The former mayor of Osnabrück and long-time interior minister of Lower Saxony described the city of Hanover as his second home, even if his love for football continues to be undivided for VfL Osnabrück. Pistorius admitted that he did not know all the initiatives and actors in the constituency, but promised that he wanted to be in Hanover as often as possible.
According to party information, the SPD has always won the Hannover-Stadt II constituency outright since 1949. The former SPD chairmen Kurt Schumacher and Erich Ollenhauer also appeared there. In the 2021 election, the mandate went to Yasmin Fahimi, who has since resigned from the position of DGB chairwoman. When it came to second votes, however, the SPD was recently behind the Greens in the constituency.
