Trump finds daylight saving time “inconvenient” – and wants to abolish it

It’s not just in Germany that there is debate about the abolition of winter and summer time. In the USA, the president-elect is planning to end the time change.
US President-elect Donald Trump wants to push for the abolition of daylight saving time in his country. “The Republican Party will do its best to abolish daylight saving time,” Trump wrote on Platform X. This has a small but strong group of supporters. But Trump says it shouldn’t be that way. “Daylight saving time is inconvenient and very costly for our country,” he explained his position.
As in Europe, the clocks in the USA are changed twice a year. In spring the hands are moved forward one hour and back again in autumn. The debates are similar on both sides of the Atlantic.
No more winter or summer time: the EU also wants to abolish time changes
In a non-representative survey commissioned by the EU Commission in 2018, a majority of respondents spoke out against a time change. The then head of the Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, announced its end that same year. But little has happened since then. Because the EU states would have to agree beforehand whether they wanted summer or winter time permanently. Because there is no agreement on this, the issue is on hold.
