Canada’s “Operation Unifier” in Ukraine is to be further extended. According to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, more armed forces would be sent to Ukraine.
In the wake of the Ukraine conflict, Canada is extending a training mission to the Eastern European country and sending more forces.
“Operation Unifier” will be extended by three years and 60 more members of the Canadian armed forces will be sent to Ukraine, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in Ottawa. At the moment 200 soldiers are deployed there – according to Trudeau there is the possibility of increasing to up to 400.
The additional costs for Ottawa for the mission amount to the equivalent of almost 240 million euros. This includes providing non-lethal equipment, sharing information and assisting in countering cyberattacks, Trudeau said. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on the head of government to de-escalate the threat of an invasion of Ukraine.
