The Berlin Green Party politician Stefan Gelbhaar actually wanted to run for the Bundestag again – he has now announced that he is not running because there are several complaints against him.
The Berlin Green Party member of the Bundestag Stefan Gelbhaar has withdrawn his candidacy for the party’s state list for the federal election. According to media reports on Saturday, several women have made allegations of sexual harassment against the 48-year-old. The party confirmed on Saturday that complaints against Gelbhaar had been received by the ombudsman’s office at the federal office “this week.” She did not comment on the nature of the complaints.
Greens: Procedure requires confidentiality
The party also announced that Gelbhaar had agreed to deal with the allegations in an orderly process. Appropriate positions and structures are in place for this. This process must now be completed as well and quickly as possible while protecting the interests of all those involved. “This requires confidentiality. Therefore, we will not comment on further details.”
The state party chairmen Nina Stahr and Philmon Ghirmai also confirmed Gelbhaar’s decision not to run for office. They also referred to the “orderly procedure by the ombudsman’s office at the federal office”. They supported that “people who have come forward receive advice in a safe space.” That requires confidentiality.
