The murder of Brian Thompson is listed in the New York Police Department’s situation report as one of five murders in the city in the week before last, one of 352 homicides in 2024. It may be hard to believe, but that is an almost historic low the former capital of crime. The police chief’s message is that the metropolis is becoming increasingly safer, and he is probably right.
