Magdeburg: Elon Musk demands Olaf Scholz’s resignation, insults him

Elon Musk has taken on the German federal government. On Friday morning he praised the AfD with warm words on his short message service X. After the alleged attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg, his tone became even sharper. On Saturday night, the high-tech billionaire insulted Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and demanded his resignation. “Scholz should resign immediately,” Musk wrote on the online service X in a series of postings about what happened in Magdeburg. And added: “incompetent fool”. Musk also shared a user’s comment who described the incident as a direct result of unregulated “mass immigration.”

At least two people were killed and at least 60 other people were injured in the suspected attack in Magdeburg on Friday evening. The police arrested a doctor from Saudi Arabia who had been living in Germany since 2006 as the suspected perpetrator.

In an interview with the FAZ in 2019, he described himself as “the most aggressive critic of Islam in history.” As the “Welt” reports, the man is said to have recently agitated against Germany on Musk’s Platform X. He is said to have announced his “revenge” against Germany. His profile description says: “Germany is hunting Saudi asylum seekers inside and outside Germany in order to destroy their lives.” And further: “Germany wants to Islamize Europe.”

The comment about Magdeburg came after Musk had already caused considerable irritation in Berlin that morning by writing that only the AfD could save Germany. The entrepreneur, who was appointed government advisor by the future US President Donald Trump, has been commenting on the policies of the US government, but also various governments in Europe, via X for some time now. He uses the online service that he bought two years ago to spread his anti-migrant messages and conspiracy stories worldwide.

Trump has hired Musk to act as an outside adviser to the government to bring about drastic cuts in government spending and staff cuts. The alliance between the future president and the head of the Tesla and SpaceX companies is causing massive criticism of the associated conflicts of interest. The meteoric political rise of the multi-billionaire, who grew up in South Africa and was naturalized in the USA, is unprecedented in US history.
