Before the federal election: Wagenknecht Party against fairness agreement for the election campaign

The Sahra Wagenknecht alliance rejects a fairness agreement with other parties for the federal election campaign. The BSW will not sign such an agreement because it is perceived as dishonest and self-righteous, said General Secretary Christian Leye. Instead, the party will make a commitment to a fair election campaign.

The SPD had proposed the fairness agreement and started talks with all parties in the Bundestag except the AfD. The BSW was also involved. The Union, the Left and the FDP are open to such an agreement.

BSW General Secretary Leye, however, said that a joint statement would be dishonest if the parties involved also spread “false allegations about the BSW”. “Even during the discussions about a fairness agreement, in which the Union also took part, (CSU leader) Markus Söder tweeted that our party was led from Moscow – the double standards could hardly be summed up more clearly,” explained Leye.

The BSW does not see the point of such an agreement if “the party to which this problem mainly relates is not brought to the table,” he added. “We would have been in favor of including all parties in the Bundestag in order to be able to identify the problems.” But such an explanation seems cheap. She’s not looking for “real solutions to real problems.”

The BSW’s planned commitment states, among other things, that we debate with respect for each other and take a stand against extremist statements and fake news. Any violence against election campaigners on site is condemned. Posters of political opponents should not be destroyed. In the digital space, the BSW foregoes artificial intelligence and deep fake technologies.
