After Russia’s heavy attacks on Ukraine early on Christmas morning, there was also an air alert in a Russian region. The administration reports damage from Ukrainian drones.

A power line was damaged in a drone attack in the Russian region of Belgorod on the border with Ukraine. The residents of several small towns were without electricity, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on his Telegram channel late on Wednesday evening. The Ukrainian Air Force attacked the Graivoron district, which lies directly on the border, with drones. There was a temporary air alert throughout the Belgorod region.

Serious Russian attacks had previously caused power outages in several regions of Ukraine on Wednesday night, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj reported on the X platform. US President Joe Biden condemned these Russian attacks at Christmas and ordered his country’s defense ministry to continue arms deliveries to Ukraine.

The aim of this “outrageous” attack was to block the Ukrainian population’s access to heat and electricity in the winter and to endanger the security of the Ukrainian power grid, said Biden. “Let me be clear: the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and security.”

In its war against Ukraine, Russia repeatedly attacks the country’s energy system. The Ukrainian attacks are disproportionate to the damage caused by Russia in the neighboring country.
