Since October, Israel’s army has again taken massive action against Hamas in the north of the Gaza Strip. Now a hospital is the target of the offensive again.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has denounced the Israeli army’s “systematic dismantling” of the health system in the Gaza Strip. This is a death sentence for tens of thousands of Palestinians who need medical care. The Israeli military shut down the Kamal Adwan Hospital during an operation. The UN organization complained that it was the last major health facility in the north of the coastal strip.
Initial reports said several important departments in the hospital were destroyed by fire during the attack. There are still 60 employees and 25 patients in critical condition in the hospital, including those on ventilators. All other patients were forced to go to the Indonesian hospital, which was also no longer functional.
Israel’s army said it had begun an operation in the Kamal Adwan Hospital in the morning. It serves as a stronghold for Hamas terrorists in northern Gaza, who use the hospital for military purposes and as a hideout, it said in a statement.
Israel’s army emphasized that it was protecting civilians, patients and clinic employees. The people were evacuated before the operation in cooperation with local employees of the health authorities and international organizations. The military emphasized that the army was acting in accordance with international law.
The information provided by both sides could not initially be independently verified. Israel’s military has already been deployed to clinics in the Gaza Strip several times because it accuses Hamas of using them for its own purposes.
