In his New Year’s Eve speech, Ukraine’s President Zelensky recalls the hard days of the past year. And he hopes for a new year with a life without war.
At the turn of the year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recalled the daily fight for freedom. “Every single day of 2024 was won by our warriors, by all of our people, by everyone who defends, works, strengthens and helps,” said Zelensky in his New Year’s Eve address broadcast on X. “We Ukrainians know what it means not to wait for tomorrow, but to fight for freedom every single day and every year.”
And the past year was exactly that – hard-fought and free, Zelensky emphasized. “Another step towards justice, towards a just peace, our victory, and towards a life without war.” The past year brought Ukraine numerous military setbacks, especially in the second half of the year, especially in the hotly contested east of the country.
Zelenskyj added a photo to the post on X that showed him and his wife Olena in front of a decorated Christmas tree.
