Dead and injured after Russian drone attack on Kyiv

Russia also attacks Ukraine with drone attacks on New Year’s Day. There are fires – and in the capital Kiev there are also deaths, injuries and serious damage.
According to authorities, several fires broke out in the capital Kiev in a new Russian drone attack on Ukraine, at least two people were killed and seven other people were injured. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that a woman was pulled out dead from under the rubble of a house. Like the new head of the Kiev military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, he spoke of a total of two deaths there.
Three injured people were taken to hospital, said Klitschko. He increased the total number of injured during the day. Accordingly, debris from downed drones fell on several buildings in two parts of the city. A fire broke out on the roof of a residential building and also in an apartment. The top two floors were partially destroyed.
Zelensky: 111 drone attacks on New Year’s Eve
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack. “Even on New Year’s Day, Russia’s only concern is how to inflict pain on Ukraine,” he said in Kiev. There were 111 drone attacks on the country. Most drones would have missed their targets. Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and praised the efforts of rescue workers and defenders who fought for the country.
According to Klitschko, the anti-aircraft defense was active. In the morning he called on citizens to seek safety in shelters and rooms. The town hall boss also published photos of a tram with broken windows and damage to the track bed after drone debris hit it.
Fires also in Zaporizhia
Since New Year’s Eve, Russia has also carried out drone attacks on other parts of Ukraine. According to authorities, several residential buildings in the city of Zaporizhzhia caught fire following explosions during the night. A woman was saved. The city in the south of the country initially did not report anything about possible victims or injuries.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for almost three years. The country is receiving support from the West.
