Israel: Iranian missile factory destroyed in Syria

The Israeli army wants to stop arms smuggling to Hezbollah. A few months ago it was even deployed with ground troops deep in Syrian territory.
Israel’s army says it destroyed an underground missile factory financed by Iran in Syria four months ago during a commando operation. Hundreds of precision missiles were to be produced every year for Hezbollah in Lebanon and other pro-Iranian militias, a military spokesman said. More than 100 special forces who were flown in by helicopter were involved in the operation around 500 kilometers north of Israel.
The factory in Masjaf in the west, which was built in 2017, has been observed and scouted by the secret service for years. According to the spokesman, it was put into operation shortly before the Israeli attack on September 8, 2024. He called it a “strategic threat to the State of Israel” and a “flagship project of Iran.”
Some militia members were killed in the Israeli operation. But this was not the aim of the military operation, the army spokesman emphasized.
Israel has repeatedly attacked infrastructure in Syria in the past, which, according to the military, is used by the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah to smuggle weapons.
