Lindner calls on the Union to stand up for black and yellow

If the Union clearly spoke out in favor of a coalition with the Liberals, black and yellow would be achievable in February – that’s how FDP leader Lindner sees it. He hopes for a correction in the Union election campaign.

The FDP chairman Christian Lindner has appealed to the Union to commit to a black-yellow alliance after the federal election in February. “If the Union and the FDP were to say together that we are ready to fight for a majority, don’t vote for the AfD and BSW, but rather give us a mandate so that we can govern without the SPD and the Greens, that would revolutionize the political landscape,” said Lindner the German Press Agency in Berlin.

“The majority wants a centrist government – without red-green”

There are many impatient and dissatisfied voters who could potentially be won over to the center, but who are currently voting for AfD or BSW. “The last thing these people want is black and green.”

“The FDP says much more clearly that black-yellow would be the best constellation for our country. The Union is hesitant because it is afraid that the FDP could benefit too much,” said Lindner. “That seems small to me, because both would benefit from a joint, courageous appearance. The majority in our country wants a government of the center – and that specifically means: without red-green.”

Hope that the Union will correct its course

He hopes that the Union will correct its election campaign. “The CDU is currently fighting even more for the Chancellery and less for a policy change,” said the FDP leader. “I regret that the Union carries its openness to coalitions with the SPD and the Greens like a monstrance. After the failed coalition with the SPD and the Greens, I can only warn Friedrich Merz against the illusion that left-wing parties have a fundamentally different economic and migration policy would be achievable.”

Lindner said he would never expect the Union to make a coalition statement that amounted to exclusivity. “I’m also far from stalking. I just think that the Union would do better if it said clearly: We are fighting for a majority in the middle, everything else is just a second choice for us.”
