Turkey sees the Kurdish militia YPG in Syria as an offshoot of the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization. It repeatedly intervenes in neighboring countries.
Turkey says it has again taken action against Kurdish militias in northern Syria and Iraq. The Defense Ministry said 32 supporters of the Kurdish militia YPG were “neutralized” in northern Syria. As a rule, this means the killing of fighters. Four supporters of the banned Kurdish Workers’ Party PKK were “neutralized” in northern Iraq, it said. Exactly how the military proceeded was not disclosed.
Turkey considers the US-backed Kurdish militias in Syria to be an offshoot of the PKK and therefore a terrorist organization. It repeatedly carries out air strikes in neighboring countries and has carried out several military operations in northern Syria with the support of rebel groups.
There is currently fierce fighting between Kurdish militias and Turkish-backed fighters around the northern Syrian city of Manbij. According to his own statements, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to destroy the Kurdish militias in northern Syria.
