The Greens are holding a digital party conference. Only a small group of people are present in the Berlin Velodrom. The several hundred delegates connect via the Internet.
The Greens have started their digital federal party conference under the motto “Roots for the future”. A new chapter is beginning, said the outgoing political director Michael Kellner at the beginning.
Only a few leading Greens were present at the Berlin Velodrom. The several hundred delegates were connected online.
The Greens had achieved a lot, explained Kellner. “We are no longer a small party.” Bucking the trend, the Greens clearly increased their membership. The federal executive board and the party council are to be re-elected on Saturday.
For the first time in sixteen years, the Greens are part of a federal government. “Now a new time begins,” said Kellner. It’s not about knowing better, but about doing better. This is how his party is measured. That’s what the Greens started for, that’s what they fought for. “Let’s strengthen our roots for the future.”
The Greens will elect a new party leadership on Saturday. The most promising candidates for the dual leadership are the members of the Bundestag Omid Nouripour and Ricarda Lang. Due to a corona infection, Lang can only connect digitally.
The other members of the federal executive board will also be re-elected, and the election of the party council is also planned. The elections still have to be confirmed by letter.
