Lindner’s foam cake attack is not the first unusual attack against politicians. In the past, some people have been the target of eggs, paint, etc.

Regardless of whether it was cakes, eggs or paint: a number of politicians were frequently attacked with food and the like at election campaign events. FDP leader Christian Lindner is now joining in. A review:

Sahra Wagenknecht, May 2016

At the federal party conference of the Left in Magdeburg, a student throws a cake at Sahra Wagenknecht. The attacker justified the throw with her statements about refugee policy. Eight years later she is attacked again. At a BSW election campaign event in Erfurt, shortly after the end of her speech, she was sprayed with red paint and hit in the head, upper body and neck.

Jörg Meuthen, August 2016

At an AfD meeting, a 17-year-old threw a frozen cake at then party leader Jörg Meuthen in the Harburg district of Lower Saxony. Meuthen is slightly injured in the head.

Joschka Fischer, May 1999

At a special Green party conference in Bielefeld, the Greens agreed to the NATO mission in Kosovo. At the event, the then Green Party Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer was hit in the right ear by a bag of paint and suffered a ruptured eardrum.

Young demonstrators throw eggs, tomatoes and bags of paint at the then Chancellor Helmut Kohl (CDU) in Halle. He then runs angrily towards the attackers. Employees and a barrier ultimately prevent him from taking physical action against one of the protesters.
