Ukraine receives billions from Brussels in the war against the Kremlin. It comes – indirectly – from Russian assets.
The EU Commission is paying Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia, three billion euros as the first part of a large aid package from the G7. The aim is to give the country the financial strength to continue fighting for its freedom and to win, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on Platform X. “Just like the brave Ukrainian resistance, our support will be unwavering.”
The Group of Seven leading democratic industrialized countries (G7) and the EU want to provide Ukraine with a total loan of 50 billion US dollars (around 48 billion euros). To Moscow’s annoyance, the sum is secured by interest income on Russian state assets that are frozen in the West.
