The German Federal Cabinet decided on Friday a corresponding ordinance from Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) by circulation, said the deputy government spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer. From August 1st, all people over the age of twelve must provide evidence of a corona vaccination, recovery or a negative test result when entering Germany.
Such a requirement has already existed for all flight passengers. In future, this will apply to all modes of transport, including those arriving by car or train. The new regulation serves to keep the entry of additional infections to Germany as low as possible.
Special regulations for commuters
The ordinance provides for special regulations for cross-border commuters and short trips in cross-border traffic with a stay of less than 24 hours. For cross-border commuters and cross-border commuters, the obligation to provide evidence only applies when entering from a high-risk area, a virus variant area or by air, according to the regulation.
In the future, there will only be two instead of three categories in Germany for areas around the world with a higher risk of infection: high-risk areas and areas in which new, worrying virus variants are circulating. The category of “simple” risk areas (incidence over 50) is omitted.
