Biden admits: Politics is not always well sold

Joe Biden will be leaving office in a few days. In his last interview before leaving, the Democrat offers a hint of self-criticism.
In his last television interview before leaving the White House, US President Joe Biden admitted that he had not always sold his policies well. He and his party made the mistake of not adequately explaining the successes they were responsible for, Biden told the US broadcaster MSNBC. For example, if a new bridge worth billions was built somewhere, he and his Democrats did not make it clear enough that the construction was thanks to them.
“I’m not a very good salesman,” admitted the 82-year-old. At times he was too concerned with the political content than with the question of how it should be communicated to the outside world.
In his previous years in office, Biden, among other things, stimulated the economy again after the corona pandemic and initiated unprecedented investments in climate protection and infrastructure. But he didn’t really get through to the public and had to struggle with poor popularity ratings.
Above all, recurring misfires and embarrassing mistakes had publicly affected him and raised doubts about his mental fitness. Only after immense pressure from his own party did Biden withdraw from the campaign for a second term last summer, leaving the field to his Vice President Kamala Harris at the last minute.
To this day, Biden rejects criticism that he clung to power for too long and that his late withdrawal paved the way for Republican Donald Trump’s election victory. He said just a few days ago that he was convinced he could have beaten Trump.
The election winner Trump will take over from Biden on Monday. The Democrat fittingly gave his farewell interview in a program called “The Last Word.”
