If migrants want to return voluntarily after the fall of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, they will now receive financial support again.
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is once again financially supporting migrants who want to return to their home country of Syria. Since January 13th, the BAMF has been organizing voluntary departures to the country of origin Syria again, a spokesman said and confirmed a “Spiegel” report.
According to the BAMF, the corresponding programs support, among other things, the organization and costs of the trip as well as “reintegration” on site. Syria is therefore one of the countries listed in the federal-state program REAG/GARP 2.0, which is aimed at people who want to leave the country voluntarily. A maximum of EUR 4,000 can be paid out per family as one-off support; individuals can be supported with up to EUR 1,000.
This means that, after years, direct financial support is once again possible for people who want to voluntarily return to their home country of Syria. Under the rule of ruler Bashar al-Assad, the country, torn by civil war, was considered too dangerous.
