Zelensky: More than 1,000 air strikes in a week

In Ukraine, the president takes stock after a week of deadly air strikes. And he explains how the country bombed by Russia could be better protected.

After a week of more than 1,000 Russian air strikes against Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the country’s allies to provide more US Patriot anti-aircraft systems. “We need the strong support of our partners,” said Zelenskyj in his channel on the Telegram news service. “More Patriots for Ukraine means more protection for life.” There were several deaths and injuries in the attacks.

This week alone, Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 660 glide bombs, around 550 drones and almost 60 missiles. Ukrainian air defenses shot down 33 missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than 300 drones. At the same time, Zelensky published a video of the devastating devastation after the attacks – for example in Kiev and Zaporizhzhia at the weekend, but also in Donbass.

Zelensky thanked the armed forces for repelling Russian air strikes. “But the task of further strengthening the protection of our airspace remains,” he said. Zelensky repeatedly calls on Western supporters to deliver even more anti-aircraft systems to the country.

Ukraine has been defending itself for almost three years against the Russian war of aggression, which, according to the Moscow Defense Ministry, also took over additional areas in the east of the country at the weekend.
