The ceremony for the swearing in of the new US President Donald Trump will take place in the early evening German time. Several channels broadcast live.
German TV audiences can follow Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States on Monday on various channels.
ZDF: In an almost two-hour “ZDF special”, the second broadcasts live from Washington from 5:15 p.m. until the “heute” broadcast at 7:00 p.m. Antje Pieper and Elmar Theveßen comment and analyze. After the “heute journal update”, a second “ZDF special” on “Donald Trump back in power” summarizes the day’s events in film from midnight.

Donald Trump on (almost) all channels
ARD: Das Erste is adding a “Brennpunkt” to its program at 8:15 p.m., moderated by Ellen Ehni. Then at 8:30 p.m. comes the 60-minute documentary “Donald Trump – Fateful Years of a President.” The talk show “Hart aber fair” then discusses the topic “Comeback for Trump: What’s in store for Germany?”
RTL and ntv are accompanying Trump’s inauguration with the joint special program “Trump is back – change of power in the White House”. Gesa Eberl and Christopher Wittich will report at 5:30 p.m. with background information and reactions. In addition, ntv will report comprehensively on the inauguration throughout the day with several “news specials” and live broadcasts (3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. to 11:40 p.m.).
WELT TV: Welt TV will report live from Washington around the inauguration from 5 p.m. to 10:05 p.m. German time and classify the events in the Berlin studio. US correspondent Michael Wüllenweber and reporter Alina Quast report live from Washington, while presenters Carsten Hädler and Marie Droste lead the evening in the studio. US journalist Erik Kirschbaum and political consultant Julius van de Laar are guests.

PHOENIX: The ARD and ZDF event channel, Phoenix, broadcasts live to the USA from 2 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Conversations are planned with Ralph Freund (Republicans Abroad Germany), Annika Brockschmidt (historian and freelance journalist) and political scientist Cathryn Clüber Ashbrook. From 5:15 p.m. Phoenix will take over the ZDF broadcast, but with sign language displayed.
