Country singer Carrie Underwood was supposed to provide musical accompaniment to Trump’s inauguration and belt out an American classic. But the technology didn’t cooperate.
Country singer Carrie Underwood sang “America the Beautiful” at Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony – but the whole thing almost went wrong. A sound glitch spoiled Trump’s otherwise perfectly choreographed production. With the support of the audience, she finally made it.
With Underwood, Donald Trump had secured a relatively high-profile star guest for his inauguration. However, there were technical problems during the performance. First the sound went out completely, then Underwood finally had to sing a cappella – and was supported by the audience.

Carrie Underwood has hardly made any political statements so far
In the past, Underwood had rarely commented on political issues and refrained from publicly supporting political candidates. The 41-year-old, who won the fourth season of the talent show “American Idol” (the US model for “Germany is looking for the superstar”) in 2005, is now one of the most famous country musicians in the USA.
At Joe Biden’s inauguration four years ago, US poet Amanda Gorman, who was only 22 years old at the time, made a special – and globally celebrated – appearance and recited a poem she had written herself.
