The AfD Saxony has resisted this for a long time, but now a court has decided: The Office for the Protection of the Constitution can classify the state association as definitely right-wing extremist.
The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony can classify the state association of the AfD as definitely right-wing extremist. The Saxon Higher Administrative Court (OVG) decided this on Tuesday in Bautzen. The court thus rejected the complaint against a decision by the Dresden Administrative Court, which had rejected an urgent application by the AfD against this classification last July.
The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the Saxon AfD as definitely right-wing extremist in December 2023. He had led their youth organization Junge Alternative as firmly right-wing extremist since April 2023.
AfD Saxony can be classified as definitely right-wing extremist – the verdict is incontestable
The AfD was unsuccessful in an urgent application against its classification before the Dresden Administrative Court. The court said in its decision last year that there was “sufficient factual evidence” that the party was pursuing efforts that were “against the human dignity of certain groups of people” and “against the principle of democracy.”
After an examination by the Higher Administrative Court, the reasons presented by the AfD with the complaint did not lead to a change in the decision. The OVG explained that the complainant did not fundamentally question the extensive factual findings of the administrative court or the legal conclusions. The decision is final.
