Ex-police officer Michael Fanone was seriously injured during the storming of the Capitol. The fact that President Donald Trump is now pardoning the attackers is a “fraud” for him.
The images of January 6, 2021 are seared into American memory. Supporters of Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in Washington after his election defeat, where the Senate and House of Representatives were supposed to certify Joe Biden’s victory. They broke into MPs’ offices, rioted and even threatened to kill unwelcome politicians. Five people were killed.
Michael Fanone was one of the police officers who confronted the angry mob. He is one of more than 140 police officers who were injured that day: Fanone suffered burns, cardiac arrest, a concussion and a traumatic brain injury. After the attack, he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. Six perpetrators were sentenced to prison. Donald Trump pardoned her after taking office as US President – as well as all other people who were involved in the storming of the Capitol.

Michael Fanone feels betrayed – by Donald Trump and his voters
This is a shock for Fanone. In an interview with the US broadcaster CNN, he settled accounts with Trump and expressed his deep disappointment with the pardons. “My country betrayed me,” said the 44-year-old. “Everyone who voted for Trump betrayed me.” Trump had issued sweeping and unconditional pardons to all of the more than a thousand people convicted so far in connection with the Capitol attack. All outstanding criminal proceedings should be discontinued. During the election campaign, those around Trump said that no one should be pardoned if they had become violent.
Nevertheless, the people who critically injured Michael Fanone are released. “Six people who attacked me while I was doing my job are being released,” Fanone told CNN. “Six people who threatened my life and my family.” Fanone now fears for his safety and that of his family members. After he testified in the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the events of January 6, 2021 and wrote a book about it, he received threats several times. “There was incitement against me on right-wing news sites and channels that I was even an agent of the Democrats,” Fanone said in 2023 star-Interview.
The attackers attacked the police officer with electric batons and batons. Due to health problems, he retired from the police service at the end of 2021 after 20 years. In public, he repeatedly criticized the Republican Party’s handling of the storming of the Capitol. In 2023, US President Joe Biden awarded Fanone the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second highest civilian award in the United States.
