While ARD and ZDF insist on a TV duel between Olaf Scholz and Friedrich Merz, RTL is making other plans. The broadcaster wants a TV show with a round of four.
Instead of a TV duel between Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz (CDU), RTL can also imagine a four-round round of top candidates before the federal election. “According to the tragic events of Aschaffenburg last week and the resulting political developments, the prerequisites for a TV duel on 16.2. “That’s why we invite Olaf Scholz, Friedrich Merz, Alice Weidel and Robert Habeck to compete against each other in direct exchange of blows.”
ARD and ZDF, on the other hand, stick to their TV duel between Merz and Scholz on February 9th. Of the public law houses, it was said that the basic concept would stay. The ZDF said: “There is no new stand on the planning of ARD and ZDF.” The “Tagesspiegel” first reported about it.
At the weekend, Merz had proposed to expand the TV duel on public television with Scholz around Robert Habeck (Greens) and Alice Weidel (AfD). Merz had said to the Medienhaus WMH, which includes the “Westfälische Nachrichten” and the “Westfalen-Blatt”: “A direct meeting with Alice Weidel on TV is my firm intention. Then it becomes clear that AfD and Union do not have anything . “
Friedrich Merz canceled TV talks with Alice Weidel
ARD and ZDF had tried to bring Weidel and Merz together in other formats, which was failed. The ARD said that Merz and Weidel was invited to the ARD talk show “Caren Miosga” the next Sunday evening (2.2.) – “However, Mr. Merz canceled for terminals”. On the same day, committee meetings are planned on Monday before the CDU election party.
“The old”, “pear”, “Fritze” – the bizarre nicknames of German politicians
Konrad Adenauer – “The Alte”
The first Chancellor of the Federal Republic was also her oldest: Konrad Adenauer was a whopping 73 years old when he was elected to office. No wonder that this fact also brought him his nickname: “The old one” was called Adenauer half ironic, half paternal. Born in Cologne, he was re -elected three times and died in 1967 with a proud 91 years

Further
The ZDF announced that the broadcaster invited Merz to a dispute with Weidel in the program “Maybrit Illner” or “Markus Lanz” at the end of last week. Merz also rejected this invitation for reasons of time, it continued.
ARD and ZDF originally wanted to radiate two TV duels. The duel between Scholz and Merz is scheduled to take place on February 9th. Another duel was planned between Weidel and Habeck for February 10th. However, this failed due to the resistance of the Greens, which Habeck wanted to see in the round with Scholz and Merz. The broadcasters stroked the second duel and wanted to find alternatives in which the two politicians can perform.
Among other things, the public broadcasters had argued that there are also other programs before the Bundestag election, in which several top candidates will be shown. For example, the four candidates of Union, SPD, AfD and Greens are guests on February 13 on the ZDF program “Plain Text” and at the ARD in an “election arena” on February 17. A few days before the election – on February 20 – there will be a “final round” of all top candidates of the parties represented in the Bundestag in the Bundestag.
