Donald Trump is not easy to speak to the “old media”, the “new” should get a place in the sun, in the press room of the White House.

The new government of US President Donald Trump wants to change the handling of media in the White House. Trump’s spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, said at her first press conference at the government center in Washington, in the future influencers, TikTok makers, bloggers, podcaster and reporters should be able to get a place and ask questions. You could apply for an accreditation if you produced “news -related content”.

Mainstream media, which she described as “old media”, no longer had the range as before, said Leavitt. Instead, many Americans used “new media”. In her first press briefing, in which journalists crowded close together, Trump’s spokeswoman already gave a foretaste of the new course and, among other things, welcomed a reporter of the right -wing populist portal Breitbart in the room and had one of the first questions asked. Leavitt spoke of a “revolutionary media approach”.

In addition to the broadcasting Fox News used by him for many years and used for many years, Trump also focused on interviews with right -wing podcasters in the most recent election campaign. He also discovered the TIIKKOK video platform, which is controversial in the United States because of its Chinese mother’s company and threatened by a legal ban, as a useful instrument to connect to young people.

Traditional crowds in the press room of the White House

In the fairly tight press room in the west wing of the White House there are 49 seats that are awarded to members of the association of the Weiße-Haus-Korrespondents. However, other journalists can take part in the briefings standing. Leavitt now announced that there would be another seat for reporters who will be reserved for representatives of the “new media”.

The changes announced by the Trump spokeswoman failed far less than many media organizations had feared. They were concerned about being severely restricted in their reporting from the White House.

Donald Trump loves and hates the media

Trump’s handling of the media has always been divided. On the one hand, the Republican, as president, is much more accessible to journalists than his predecessor Joe Biden. Trump always gives long press conferences, answers questions from reporters on all possible occasions and noticeably enjoys media attention. That was already in his first term (2017 to 2021).

On the other hand, he significantly limited the official access of press representatives to his events in the election campaign, dealt with mainstream media in many places and increasingly gave interviews to politically well-known bloggers and podcasters to bring his messages to voters. For years, Trump has also been using social media intensively – in his first term Twitter and now above all the Truth Social platform he co -founded.

For years, Trump has been working at public events, especially for campaign ranges about journalists, mostly under great joins in his followers. He regularly describes the media as “enemies of the people”, regularly accuses reporters of spreading nothing but lies, and he wants to withdraw unpleasant channels.
