Elon Musks supports the AfD – “hideous” for Olaf Scholz

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) described the support of the US billionaire and Trump confidante Elon Musk as “hideous” for the AfD. As a social democrat, he is used to the fact that rich media entrepreneurs interfered in German politics, Scholz said to journalists on the sidelines of an election campaign event in Berlin. What is new, however, is that Musk is strong for right -wing politicians across Europe. “And that is really hideous. And it is not good for democratic development in the whole European Union.”

Musk had publicly spoken out for the AfD several times in the election campaign, a conversation with AfD boss Alice Weidel on his online platform X and took part in an election campaign event by the party at the weekend. There, the consultant of US President Donald Trump had criticized for government efficiency immediately before the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz extermination camp that Germany was “putting too much focus on past guilt”.

Scholz criticized that sharply. “We are very happy that the United States freed our country and helped us to become a democracy again,” he said. “And that’s why I am so angry that Elon Musk is committed to extreme rights and does not respond appropriately to the murder of so many Jews and other people in Europe that Germans committed in the past.”

On Monday, Scholz had participated in the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp in the central commemoration of the six million Jews murdered under the Nazi rule. On Wednesday there is a commemoration for the victims of the Holocaust in the Bundestag.
