An anti -Semitic incident is said to have occurred in the “Hessische Rundfunk”. The German-Israeli computer scientist Haya Schulmann posted a contribution on Tuesday afternoon on the “LinkedIn” network in which she described that she was a few hours earlieras an interview partner in a program on the subject of “European data protection”. During the previous technology test, the Turkish -born moderator asked the professor where her name came from.
When she replied “from Israel”, the moderator “Bähhh” called and stretched out her tongue. Immediately afterwards she was muted and only switched on shortly before the broadcast. When a schoolman asked an employee what it was, he told her that the moderator didn’t mean that.
“I was shocked”
“I was shocked and didn’t know how to react,” says Schulmann now star. At first she considered not to give the interview at all. The employee told her that he could understand that. But then she did not want to look unprofessional and completed the interview that only lasted a few minutes.
The incident for the professor has not yet been done. “It was humiliating and hurtful,” she says. “I would never behave like this towards someone.” The incident was particularly shocked because she first found the moderator to be very nice and the editorial team then played down her behavior.
Schulmann says she hesitated to make the experience public. “Nobody wants to be a victim. But there is far too little awareness of anti -Semitism, and if I don’t dare, I can not expect it from anyone else,” said the computer scientist. “That’s why I posted it later.” She very much appreciates Germany and does not want society to change negatively.
The renowned scientist, herself a granddaughter of German Holocaust survivors, came to Germany in 2014, is now married to a German and has had dual citizenship for several years. She is a professor at the Chair of Computer Science at the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt and is also responsible for the research area “Analytics Based Cybersecurity” at the National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity Athene.
Allegation of anti -Semitism: This is how the “Hessische Rundfunk” reacts
Schulmann has never heard of the moderator or the editorial team. For this, HR director Florian Hager reported to her on Tuesday evening by direct message and promised to pursue the process.
At a request from RTL, a spokesman for the “Hessischer Rundfunk” explained: We take the allegations that Haya Schulmann describes in her posting. It is important to us to clarify the facts comprehensively and to hear everyone involved. As long as the clarification continues, we ask for a respectful way of dealing with everyone involved. “
