UN Palestinian aid work continues despite the ban

Millions of Palestinians are dependent on the UN aid plant Unrwa. Israel sees it as a haven of terror and puts a ban on working. Unrwa continues for the time being. But how long?
After the entry into force of a ban on work in Israel for the UN Palestinian aid work Unrwa, the future care of the needy population is questioned in the destroyed Gaza Strip. For the time being, however, the UN organization continues its work despite Israel’s ban. The help in Gaza continues, said the spokesman for UN Secretary General António Guterres, Stéphane Dujarric. Clinics of Unrwa in the entire occupied West Bank and in East Jerusalem are still open.
According to Israel’s will, Unrwa should have hired the work on Thursday. Israel accuses the UN Palestinian aid work that some employees were involved in Hamas terrorist activities. As a consequence, Israel’s parliament had imposed a ban on work on Israeli territory. Another law prohibits Israeli authorities of contact with Unrwa. Because Israel controls all access to the occupied areas, it is feared that it could be difficult or impossible for the relief organization to continue supplying the civilian population in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank.
The “New York Times” Sam Rose quoted for several weeks in the Gaza Strip for several weeks, for the use in the painted coastal strip of responsible unwa director. Israel could also allow the aid organization to recharge thousands of truck loads that are already in Israel, although this could technically violate the ban on work, the newspaper quoted three Israeli civil servants not mentioned by name.
The biggest challenge for Unrwa will be pending in a few weeks if the aid deliveries are running out and the foreign employees of the relief organization have to be deducted. Due to the ban on work, it could be impossible to obtain approval for the import of additional relief supplies and apply for visas for the employees. The only access to Gaza on the land is currently via Israel.
About two dozen international employees of the aid organization had already come to Jordan due to expiring visas, said Dujarric in New York. Unrwa boss Philippe Lazzarini had recently warned on the platform X that the ban on work by Israel could “sabotage” the ceasefire currently in Gaza between Israel and Islamist Hamas without explaining this in more detail. Also in the UN World Safety Council in New York, Lazzarini warned with urgent words: “The fate of millions of Palestinians, the ceasefire and the prospects of a political solution that brings permanent peace and security are at stake.”
Israel’s government wants a replacement for Unrwa, but so far there is no. Other aid organizations rely on the Unnwa distribution network, including its trucks, warehouses, employees and distribution points. Unrwa is “irreplaceable for the survival of civilians,” said the spokesman for the UN Nothilfebüro Ocha, Jens Laerke.
According to the US special ambassador for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, Steve Witkoff, could take between ten and 15 years. After almost 16 months of war between Israel and Islamist Hamas, the infrastructure in the sealed coastal strip on the Mediterranean was “almost nothing left,” said Witkoff on the US news page “Axios”. He had visited the Gaza Strip on Wednesday to get an idea of the war zone on the ground and from the air.
The demolition and elimination of the debris alone will take five years, said Witkoff, who worked as a real estate investor before his appointment as the Middle East of US President Donald Trump. The evaluation of the possible effects of the many tunnels under Gaza based on Hamas on the construction of new foundations could take another years. The underground tunnels report on hundreds of kilometers. They serve the Hamas as a retreat and storage rooms.
He had not talked to Trump about his idea of relocating Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan while the area was being rebuilt, said Witkoff. After what he saw during his visit, the coastal strip is “uninhabitable”. In addition, the many non -exploded explosive devices would come. It was dangerous to move in Gaza. The two Arab states had rejected Trump’s idea and explained that they would not take part in a relocation of residents from Gazas.
Witkoff left Israel on Thursday, a few hours after the Hamas had released eight more Israeli hostages. In return, Israel released 110 Palestinian prisoners, including at least 30 for murder. Some of the released prisoners were reportedly brought into the Gaza Strip. Several should be brought abroad as part of the agreement due to the severity of their crimes. Israel’s government initially postponed the release of the prisoners out of outrage over chaotic scenes in the hostage of hostage in Chan Junis in southern Gazas.
