Greenland survey: Danes consider the USA to be a greater threat than North Korea

Opinion poll
The USA considers almost half of the Danes to be a greater threat than North Korea

US President Donald Trump announced several times to buy Greenland. According to a survey, many Danes are therefore threatened. Only one nation scares them more.

The old and new US President Donald Trump claims that he wanted to gain control of Greenland and the Panama Canal. This is an “absolute necessity” for the economic security of the United States. However, Greenland is part of Denmark as an autonomous area and is not for sale, as the Kingdom emphasized against the United States.

But many Danes are concerned, because Trump had confirmed his threats several times (read: “Donald Trump is serious about taking over Greenland”). An investigation by the Britsch market and opinion research institute “YouGov”, which is “”, now confirms the fear of the population.

78 percent of those surveyed against Greenland sales

According to the survey, almost half of the Danes now consider the United States as a danger to its country. 46 percent of those surveyed stated that they consider the United States to be a “very big threat” or a “fairly big threat”.

From North Korea (44 percent) and Iran (40 percent), from the perspective of the respondents, there is less threat than from the United States. However, most feel intimidated by Russia. 86 percent stated that Moscow as a threat.

The vast majority of respondents (78 percent) are also against the sale of Greenland to the United States. But Greenland should decide about it and not Denmark, my 72 percent.

Danish head of government asks for support

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen recently traveled through Berlin, Paris and Brussels and campaigned for support. “I would like to make sure that all of Europe is together. Not only in terms of the Kingdom of Denmark, but also beyond,” said the Danish head of government. “Everyone in Europe can see that it will now be a different collaboration with the United States.”

Greenland arouses interest from all over the world – also from China. The Greenland territory is rich in natural resources. These include oil, gas, gold, diamonds, uranium, zinc and lead. There has been a base of the US Army on the northwest coast of Greenland since the Cold War. Around 57,000 people live in Greenland.
