Kyiv: North Korean soldiers were probably withdrawn

North Korean troops have been fighting against Ukraine on the side of Russia since autumn. But the interaction is considered bad, the losses are high. That has now had consequences.

Officials in Kiev have confirmed reports on the preliminary deduction of North Korean soldiers from the front in the West Russian area of Kursk. “We share that the presence of military units from North Korea has not been noticeable for about three weeks, they were probably forced to withdraw because of the high losses,” said the spokesman for the Ukrainian special units, Colonel Olexander Kind Ratenko according to the “Ukraijinska Prawda” internet portal. Child guessing restricted that he could only speak for the front sections in which special units were used.

The daily newspaper “New York Times” had previously reported on the withdrawal of the North Korean soldiers. This is related to the high losses of the units, which Russia uses in a network with its own forces to recapture the region, the report says. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow did not want to comment on this information.

North Koreans have been in use since autumn

At the end of October there had been the first reports on the sending of North Korean soldiers to Russia. Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin and the ruler in Pyongyang, Kim Jong Un, had previously agreed to cooperate in the military area. From November there were increasingly reports on the use of North Korean soldiers in the Kursk area. In the meantime, Kyiv has also made the capture of several North Koreans public.

The Ukrainian armed forces conquered parts of the Kursk area on a surprising counter -offensive last summer. The aim of the operation was to force the Russian troops, which have been waging a war of conquest in Ukraine for almost three years now. Kiev wanted to reduce the pressure on the front in the east of his own country.
