According to the Ukrainian government, there can only be a stable and permanent peace with the neighbor Russia if Kiev gets a more powerful air defense. As a security guarantee, effective protection against attacks from the air is needed, said President Wolodymyr Selenskyj in his evening video address. “Not just a few words or a few papers, but something that can guarantee an end to the Russian terror.”

Selenskyj commented on Ukrainian cities with numerous fatalities with a view to the youngest Russian rocket attacks. A sufficient number of flight and rocket defense systems are “a prerequisite for getting closer to peace,” he said. The Ukraine and its supporters know very well what is needed: “Patriots, Iris-T, all kinds of anti-aircraft systems, development of drones and investments in arms production here in Ukraine.”

At the weekend, new Russian bombing and rocket attacks on Ukrainian cities killed more than 20 people. When a rocket was hit in a residential building in PoltaWa in Central Luckraine, there were at least 14 deaths, including two children, the civil protection said. “And that’s just a single Russian rocket that has caused so much pain, suffering and loss,” said Selenskyj. There were also deaths in other parts of the country like Sumy in the northeast and Charkiw in the east, and there were also many injuries.

According to the General Staff in Kiev, four people were killed in the city of Sudscha in the Russian area controlled by Ukrainian troops in the Russian area, when a Russian sliding bomb fell in an internal school board. The information could not be checked independently.

Ukraine receives further help from abroad

Ukraine has received further support from abroad in the past few days after Selenskyj’s information. He thanked Sweden for an equivalent of around 1.16 billion euros in support, and safety aid from Finland and Croatia also emphasized Selenskyj.

Fights in eastern Ukraine are ongoing
